My Profile

Dr. Ernest J. Sherretta, D.Min

See my resume below the quotes.

The following should tell you something about me!

I was born and lived in Philadelphia, PA. till 1971. My mother was Polish and my father, Italian. Both were exemplary parents who afforded me and my brother the most wonderful childhood a person could want.

I attended Catholic parochial school and first two years at the parochial high school in Philadelphia, PA

I entered St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, PA as a junior in high school. Attended college there and left in 1971 after attending the first semester of the Graduate Theological Division of the Seminary.

I met my wife, in 1971 and we were married in 1973.

During the many years of educational and work experiences, I was fortunate to have a spiritual director, Sr. Rita Cliget, SHCJ and a mentor, Dr. Anthony Maasimini, former priest, seminary professor and therapist at The Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.  I also had the opportunity to attend many conferences, workshops, and the East Coast Conference for Religious Education which occurred in Washington, DC for many years in the 1980s.

Over the many years of service to the Church, I was also fortunate and grateful to know so many people: students, parents, co-workers, and parishioners, as well as clergy and religious sisters, who influenced me in so many ways.

I am retired and enjoy being a grandfather of 5, reading, gardening, and writing for this website: jesusagenda.blog From Throne and Altar to Discipleship

I also use my Facebook page: Faith Guy to spread the “Good News” of Jesus, and share my thoughts, resources, and much more. You can visit my page at : https://www.facebook.com/faithguy.2025/

I truly believe that Catholicism as well as Christianity must undergo drastic changes in order to be more relevant to those living in the digital age, an age which has affected how humans communicate, learn, live, and understand the meaning and significance of “God”. Evidence of those abandoning religion is mounting every day despite recent attempts by political and religious leaders to turn the tide.

I believe that the “God” of our ancestors, whether recent or ancient, is no longer relevant  to the ever evolving world in which our children and their peers live.

About Three-in-Ten U.S. Adults Are Now Religiously Unaffiliated

I welcome a healthy dialog among believers and nonbelievers. I oppose ad hominem responses. I agree with Daniel Patrick Moynihan who said, “You are entitled to your opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts.” I hold the opinion that scholarly research in biblical hermeneutics, anthropology, archaeology,  and theology can be disputed but not denied. The transparency of the social, ethical and theological history of the  Roman Catholic Church is crucial to its reputation and legacy as the Magisterial authority and its pastoral leadership, no matter whether one is a current or former member of of that Church.
